Peggy Sue Got Married - Francis Ford Coppola

"Peggy Sue faints at a Highschool reunion. When she wakes up she finds herself in her own past, just before she finished school."

Who hasn't thought about going back in high school and do things differently ?!
Time traveling stories are always from my point of view an inevitable way of getting a little nostalgic and quickly find yourself deep in thoughts.

Well, for a rainy Thursday evening I enjoyed the 60's atmosphere and some over played scenes of that 1986 film with young and very hairy Nicolas Cage

I had to post that one. That Hair!

Here about the film on IMDb.

Club Mate - Berlin

What to drink ?
I will probably have many occasions to talk again about Berlin. How great this city is and how many cultural events there are.
The one "Berlin thing" I would like to point out now is a drink, I mean THE Drink.

Club Mate is a caffeinated carbonated mate-extract beverage made in Germany. It became famous "in the Berlin club scene during the 90s as an alternative to more expensive energy drinks". Now there isn't a bar, a club where you can not other a "Mate" or a "vodka Mate"  !

When I say that, this is the perfect drink you wan to have at any time I am measuring my words.

Low sugar content
High caffeine content
Day time, nicely fresh
Night time, with vodka
Nice bottle
Great taste
JUST GOOD

You can find it in Germany and soon very slowly in many other countries as UK, Austria, Finland, Sweden ...

Thank you Berlin for this discovery.

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR OWN MATE : CHECK THIS OUT.

Phoenix recording !

What can we lately see on Hedi Slimane's Rock Diary ?

phoenix by Hedi Slimane

The French indie rock band Phoenix in studio !

After their huge success with last album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix released in 2009 many of us are waiting for what will come next !
So not many informations, actually none, but still the kind of news you like.

As they recently have finished their tour, you will have to be patient.
Some links to explore while waiting:

Here, simple but wonderful Hedi Slimane's Rock Diary
Here, Phoenix Diary
Here, Phoenix myspace
Here, trailer for Sofia Coppola's Somewhere with perfect use of Love Like a Sunset
by phoenix and beautiful I'll Try Anything Once by Julian Casablancas. Film to see.
Here, how to remind us that they indeed are French, could nearly forget it by listening to their songs.

I will finish by, how a perfect match Thomas Mars and Sofia Coppola I think are.

Hervé Ghesquière and Stéphane Taponier FREED

Hostage in Afghanistan since December 2009 the two French journalists from TV channel France 3 were freed today, wednesday June 29th. The news was announced by prime minister François Fillon, in French parliament, who assured they were in "good health".

It was 547 days ago, they were kidnaped during doing a documentary about the reconstruction of a road east of Kabul.

After being held for 18 very long months by the Taliban we are not certain about the exact circumstances and agreements of the release but for the moment time is to happiness for families, friends and all journalistic community. We will for sure know more about it in the coming days.

Maybe it will positively lighten again and again the unbelievable number of hostages around the world.
Hard to believe that today we could be captured for doing our job, going on holiday or just living our lives.

Christine Lagarde, head of the IMF

What a huge loss for France ! I guess we can still be proud.
She was until now the French Minister of Economic Affairs, Finances and Industry but will from July 5th be the first woman to head the International Monetary Fund.

After Dominique Strauss Kahn resignation a few weeks ago, we all know why, she proposed her candidature to the five-year-term managing position in one of the most important intergovernmental organizations.
She used her past international experiences and her solid background in law, business and finance to convince. Even if this might looks like a small victory the hard part hasn't started yet for her and the global financial institution she will be leading from now on.

The "TO DO list" from the IMF will be very difficult to head in the next few months with of course, in TOP 1, the Greek crises and the uncertainty that seems slowly to emanate of it and affect European countries.
It will not be an easy task to restore confidence in this global economic world without overlooking the emerging markets who will probably in the coming years play an essential role in the future economic stability.

Mme Lagarde is certainty a woman of power and we can only wish her good luck.

Pourquoi la France ?

Les jambes du métro, Paris, 1971 by Robert DOISNEAU

It is a shame you can not hear my accent because indeed I am French and even if I am not living in France at this exact moment, following French news is always very interesting.

Apart from excellent food, wonderful wine, rich history, literature, le tour de France, the Eiffel Tower, Gérard Depardieu  and Jeanne d'Arc we could say that we have quite a busy political/social scene.

French presidential elections being in now less than a year, first round of voting will be on April 22th, 2012, the French politicians public fights and controversies have started.
Always very funny or scary, I am not sure, to follow.

France will for many reasons be inevitable on this Blog.

Merci et bon appetit. At least I'm sure everyone understands those words.
